In my current role with the National Quality and Patient Safety Directorate, Health Service Executive, Ireland, I work as a Programme Manager - Staff Engagement for Quality.

A key part of my role is to influence cultural change through the co-design and implementation of communications and engagement organisational interventions and educational programmes.

This work includes facilitating leaders to further develop their skills for engaging staff as a core competency and as underpinned by part two Empowering and Engaging Staff to Improve Patient Safety, Patient Safety Strategy (2019 - 2024).  It also includes leading a fortnightly QPS TalkTime webinar series and working as the editor of Quality and Patient Safety Matters #AllThingsQuality a quarterly newsletter.   A key focus is  bringing knowledge, inspiration and community to staff and patient partners who want to improve or influence quality and patient safety.

In our work we are also involved in special projects to meet service needs.  More recently, I have also worked as the NQPSD Review Lead for the HSE National Clinical Guidelines for Post Mortem Examination Services 2023.

Since I commenced working in the health services in 2001, I have had the privilege of holding a number of diverse posts at regional and national level within the Irish Health Services (Communications, Primary Care, Planning and Evaluation, Appeals, Complaints and Quality Improvement, Quality and Patient Safety with a special interest in Staff Engagement).

I am passionate about learning and have a first class honours BA in Training and Education from the National University Ireland, Galway and first class honours MSc in Healthcare Management from the Institute of Leadership, Royal College of Surgeons Ireland.  I have also had the pleasure of guest lecturing on several undergraduate and masters programmes and conferences both nationally and internationally
