Biography

Catherine MacLennan B.Phil (Ed) Youth, Community and Play Studies
Founder of The Pinks N Blues CIC an organisation delivering services through peer support group work, face-to-face, telephone, email and skype, for those who have experienced pregnancy loss(es) in the first and second trimester. 
Graduating from the University of Birmingham with a B.Phil (Ed) Youth, Community and Play Studies as a qualified youth, community and play worker. With over 25 years of experience on the front line and in managing services, working in the Public and 3rd Sectors with some of Birmingham’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable communities. She has married her expertise and knowledge of working collaboratively in the community and her personal experiences of first and second trimester loss as an expert by experience.
Through her personal and traumatic experience of losing 6 babies in pregnancy in the 1st and 2nd trimester and holding the label 'incompetent cervix' among others, she tirelessly campaigns to improve services for those who experience loss in the 2nd trimester along with providing training to HCP's in delivering a caring and compassionate service.  Developing volunteers through training and coaching to deliver a first-class service.  She has worked with many Health Trusts through sharing best practice, as a consultant to her local Health Trusts and CCG (which includes the Tommy's National Centre for Miscarriage Research) on how they deliver services, offer support and gives regular feedback on families’ experiences within these trusts. Catherine facilitated a powerful focus group on Women who miscarry in the second trimester strand of the #MatExp #NobodysPatient.  She also sits on a number of research and trial committees ensuring the human voice is heard.
Catherine continues to raise awareness of pregnancy loss and its relationship with Perinatal Mental Health and Birth Trauma, pregnancy loss in the workplace, supporting families through Pregnancy After Loss and coaching to support families in returning to work.
As an experienced speaker Catherine is comfortable speaking with groups of 3 people to being on the main stage at large events and conferences. Her inspirational talks speak to many, drawing on her skills as a CYP worker/manager, understanding the complexities from all sides she is able to facilitate learning and understanding.
Catherine is also Media trained and has given many tv, radio, magazine and newspaper interviews.
