Visit to Northumbria Healthcare – Experienced Based Co-Design

An opportunity for members to learn about the theory and practice of EBCD.

21 Nov 2017

This visit developed the skills of Q Members in applying Experienced Based Co-Design (EBCD). EBCD immerses its practitioners in the experiences of service users, patients, families and staff, ultimately designing and implementing enhanced services in partnership with service users. Northumbria Healthcare is, and has been for a number of years, at the forefront of applying this and complementary user-focused approaches.

Q members were led by experienced EBCD practitioners through the theory and practice of EBCD. They were then supported to engage with patients and staff, building their understanding through a rich learning experience. The visit both inspired and up-skilled Q members, encouraging them to take their learning and apply this within their own organisations.

Annie Laverty, Director of Patient Experience & Quality for Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Q member, was one of the host for the visit. In the video below, she speaks about the EBCD framework and the successes this approach has had.

Q members who attended the visit have also shared their learning from the day in the video below.

You can find out more about upcoming visits and how to register for them on the Q Visits page.
