Visit to Nissan and Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust – Lean Practice in Action

A deep-dive into Lean processes in two contrasting organisations - Nissan and Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust

2-3 October 2018

Sunderland/Darlington

This innovative study tour combined a visit to Nissan UK, where delegates toured a world class Lean car production plant, with a visit to Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust a Lean healthcare early adopter, to compare and contrast how Lean concepts have been translated into an NHS context. Throughout the two days delegates were encouraged to share their learning and experiences through discussion and debrief sessions.

Aim of the study tour: To learn about how Lean ideas from industry can be adapted to improve safety and flow in healthcare.

Objectives of the study tour:

  • To learn about how Nissan uses “the Nissan Way” to deliver world-class manufacturing
  • To explore how lean concepts used within Nissan could help improve quality and safety of healthcare
  • To understand how a healthcare provider organisation (TEWV) has transformed its organisation using lean concepts
  • To share and reflect with other participants on how learning from both organisations could impact on their own improvement of health and care

Have a look at the recap page here for more information about the two days.
