The Q Liberating Structures in Healthcare community looks back on 2023 and calmly prepares for the work (and year) ahead - using Liquid Courage, Spiral Journal and Impromptu Networking.

The session

In the last Liberating Structures user group session of 2023 we did some end-of-year reflecting, guided by Kristin Johnstad and Meera Kapadia.

Using Liquid Courage, we named immediate realities and ‘top of mind’ thinking and to see if patterns emerged between us. Then using Spiral Journal, we reflected individually on significant work and life moments from the past year and thought about what we’d like to carry forward into 2024. Finally, connected and shared our reflections with others in some rounds of Impromptu Networking.

Liberating Structures

The use of Liberating Structures (LS) in improvement work has spread widely since the first training at Q annual events and the immersion workshops Q offered. Many people find them an inspiring way to enable more inclusive, innovative, productive (and fun) meetings and projects.

The Q Liberating Structures user group offers a safe space to share our experiences and try out different Liberating Structures together – both new ones, and more familiar ones. It’s a peer-learning space where people like you will lead (or co-lead) each LS, rather than veteran trainers.

As one participant in one of our meet-ups put it: “I didn’t realise how much fun I’d have – but I also learnt something”.

The opportunities that Liberating Structures give us for making truly engaging, fun and creative meetings are all too often missed – but we can change this!
