Q in-person Visit: integrated health and care systems in Northern Ireland

Join us for this in-person Visit to hear how HSC in Northern Ireland is using a new digital integrated health and social care patient records system.

22 May 2024
09:30 – 15:00

Dundonald BT16 1RH

Quality Improvement and Innovation Centre, South Eastern Trust Headquarters

This exciting in-person Visit to the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust is hosted by senior leaders from HSC in Northern Ireland working across digital transformation, integration and quality improvement.

It will showcase how the encompass programme has implemented an integrated patient record system that will be used across hospital care, allied health, and, increasingly, in the community and at the interface with primary and secondary care.

This Visit will be of particular interest if you are working on integration across health and care, digital transformation and using data for improvement.

The Visit is open to both Q members and non-Q members. Previous participants found it beneficial to invite colleagues from their organisation to embed learning in local contexts.

Q are funding a networking dinner the evening before the Visit. The dinner will be at 18.30 in Belfast (exact location TBC) and places will be on a first come first served basis. The networking dinner is open to Q members and guests of Q members who will be attending the Visit.

More about the partners hosting this Visit

Three partners have come together to host this Visit:

A new era for Northern Ireland’s health service became reality on 9 November 2023 when the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust bid farewell to paper patient records and launched encompass, the UK’s first electronic integrated health and care record and the biggest electronic health and care record implementation in Europe.

Launched on the globally-adopted and innovative Epic platform, encompass combines acute, mental and community health services as well as social care.

What will I experience?

During this Visit you will get to:

  • Hear about the journey to implementing a joint health and social care record
  • The strategic use of data, including how teams have been using data for their improvement work
  • Understand how integrated health and social care works in Northern Ireland
  • Hear more about the primary care aspect of this change and the General Practice Improvement Programme
  • Explore how data from electronic patient records can support regional HSCQI improvement programmes
  • See the newly-opened, state-of-the-art Emergency Department at the Ulster Hospital which has been constructed using the latest innovations in design and technology
  • Hear how senior leaders in Northern Ireland have led this change, and what lessons have been learnt

There will also be plenty of time for networking and facilitated breakout sessions with peers from health and social care teams across the UK.

Q will reimburse expenses, such as travel to an in-person Visit, for patient and public voice (PPV) members in line with the Q Expense policy. Please contact the Q team at Q@health.org.uk for more information.
