A journey in co-production: from co-designing services to co-developing strategy

This mini series is hosted by Q's Co-production Special Interest Group. This session followed Catherine Dale's journey on co-designing using a patient-focused lens.

24 Apr 2023
12:30 – 13:30

Catherine Dale first learnt about partnering with patients to improve health care services through experience-based co-design. She worked with Professor Glenn Robert, the originator of this approach in 2008 improving cancer services. Catherine went on to develop the EBCD toolkit with the Point of Care Foundation and has tried to apply the core principles of this approach throughout her career. These core principles are to have a patient experience lens on improvement and to co-design, co-develop, and co-produce improvements and innovations. This is sometimes far easier said than done.

In the meantime there has been a great deal of advances made in patient involvement in health care and great strides made in the UK and other parts of the world to make this approach more central and take it more seriously.

In this session Catherine spoke about some of the ways in which the work she has been involved with have progressed, particularly when it comes to inclusion and involving people at a more strategic level of improving health care.

This mini series is hosted by the Co-production Special Interest Group and each event will be hosted by one of its convenors: Catherine Dale, Carol Munt, Katie Clarke-Day and Rosemary Lim.
