Qualitative data showed that involvement in improvement is rewarding but difficult in Acute NHSTs. Integrated findings associated with professionalism, bureaucracy and operational pressures in Acute NHSTs

This new mixed methods research has implications for the practice of national bodies, providers of local Acute services and individual RNs. This includes: 1) Facilitation of RN involvement in improvement as part of professional practice 2) minimising the bureaucracy associated with improvement and 3) involving RNs in responding to operational pressures in Acute NHSTs.
