Learning from failure

Join us for a workshop to support you to reframe failure as a stepping stone for improvement.

11 Jul 2024
12:00 – 14:00

Online

Failure is often thought of as something to be avoided at all costs. However, there is huge potential in certain kinds of failure to learn, innovate and improve.

This lunchtime workshop will provide a safe space for open discussion and reflection, focused on how we can learn from failure. Whether you’re a healthcare professional, a manager, or someone looking at personal or professional learning, this workshop will support you to reframe failure as a stepping stone for improvement.

What to Expect

You will be introduced to a range of theories, models and techniques from health care, social innovation, organisation learning and crisis management. The workshop will focus on managing failure in public service delivery, particularly in health and ‘high reliability’ organisations. These will be shared in a confidential, facilitated group discussion and prompt reflection on questions such as:

  • What does failure mean to you in your work?
  • What would an enabling environment for failure look like?
  • When is it not okay to fail?

You will also have two opportunities to consider the nuances and practical implications of applying each theoretical approach in interactive breakout groups.

Facilitation

It will be facilitated by Roxanne Persaud, programme director for the MA Social Entrepreneurship at Goldsmiths, University of London.  She has extensive experience facilitating learning for social innovation and organisational development. The session is informed by Roxanne’s doctoral research on understanding failure in entrepreneurial and public service settings.

The style of facilitation will be informal and aimed at drawing out key issues for further consideration.  We’re committed to creating a safe space for open discussion. Please note that while the main meeting will be recorded for resource sharing, breakout room discussions will remain confidential.
