Are you looking to create an active community online but you’re not sure where to start?
In this first workshop in our series on building and leading networks and communities, we were joined by Richard Millington, author and founder of FeverBee.
FeverBee supports organisations around the world to develop successful online communities. Richard has helped develop hundreds of communities for a variety of organisations, including the Mayo Clinic, United Nations and Facebook, creating spaces to generate fresh ideas and solve problems.
We learned how to get conversations started, support constructive debates and help drive the change and impact you’re hoping to see. This session was especially valuable for those leading online groups, such as Q’s Special Interest Groups.
Richard is a leading figure in online communities, and author of the books Buzzing Communities – How to build, bigger, better and more active online communities, Build your community – turn your connections into a powerful online community and The Indispensable Community. He will guide you through the core skills needed to bring people together in a virtual space.
In this workshop, we discussed:
● how to create engaging discussions to solicit information
● what is influence and how to gain it
● the different methods to promote knowledge in a community.
● persuasive messages to get people to open and reply to your contributions
● why members engage and participate in communities
● your style of leadership: the different types of community roles.
This workshop is the first in our series: How to build and lead effective networks and communities. Find out more about the other workshops in the series, covering topics including Communities of Practice, Network Weaving and Systems Convening.
