How can we encourage people to shift from an individualist point of view to a collectivist point of view?
Meeting demands in health and care means spinning a lot of plates, and old solutions quickly become obsolete. In an environment requiring so much flexibility, a different type of leadership is needed to activate people instead of issuing orders.
Network Weaving is an approach designed to recognise the complexities in the communities and networks that make up our working lives (and beyond) and understand who’s missing. Through seeking new connections and bringing different networks together, we can enable fresh thinking on the challenges in health and care.
This workshop was led by:
- Hilda Campbell, CEO, COPE Scotland
- Maureen Flynn, Director of Nursing, National QPS Directorate, Health Service Executive, Ireland
- Róisín Egenton Programme Manager (Strategy), National QPS Directorate, Health Service Executive, Ireland
In this practical workshop, Hilda and Maureen and Róisín will walk us through the complexity of Network Weaving, breaking it down into understandable chunks. We’ll explore the core concepts of this approach, including:
- creating safe spaces for psychological safety and effective collaboration
- understanding the ripple effects of small, but consistent network habits
- turning creation of culture into a collective activity, rather than a top-down mandate
- finding effective ways to activate the vast intelligence that exists within a network
- and teaching a new form of leadership; not being a boss but being a weaver.
We drew on real-world examples of Network Weaving being applied in the NHS and HSE, to help explore how people could apply this thinking to their own networks and communities.
