There are widespread hopes that technology and artificial intelligence (AI) can help alleviate the pressure across the health care system through automation that can cut bureaucracy, reduce costs and free up staff to spend more time on patient care.

AI technologies are advancing rapidly. Yet when it comes to AI in health care we’re still in the early stages. So, are these hopes plausible?

Over the past year, the Health Foundation has been exploring this question.

What to expect:

This lunchtime workshop is an opportunity to hear from the Foundation’s Insight and Analysis team on the potential for AI in health care improvement with time for discussion about how AI relates to your own improvement work.

During this workshop, they will:

  • Provide an accessible overview of AI, breaking down what it is and why people are excited, as well as how it can be applied in health care
  • Set out some of the key risks and challenges we will need to address to harness AI in a responsible way
  • Explore the potential of AI for improvement, with time for discussion about how AI relates to your own improvement work

Presenters

During the first half of the workshop, you’ll hear from Tom Hardie, Senior Improvement Fellow, Nell Thornton, Improvement Fellow, and Ahmed Binesmael, Senior Improvement Analyst. They will provide an accessible overview of AI and its potential for health care. As part of this, they will share their research as well as case studies.

The second half of the workshop will be facilitated by Dr Matt Hill, Head of Insight, Evaluation and Research at Q. Matt will invite you to discuss how AI could be used in your improvement work and what skills, knowledge and support you need to realise its potential.
