Currently I am working as a Consultant Geriatrician in Poole Hospital within the Wessex region. I have been a consultant for two years now and I am lucky to work within a dynamic department. My work interests are in community working and improving work across primary and secondary care and also end of life care.
My interest in Quality Improvement developed whilst I was a junior doctor. I undertook a Quality Inprovement Fellowship with Health Education England Wessex during my specialist Registrar Training. The project was looking at ensuring appropriate admissions for care home residents in their last year of life which is still ongoing now in Southampton.
Since then I have continued to develop my interest in QI. I am a member of the Patient Safety faculty at Health Education Wessex; I run training days for junior doctors on patient safety and human factors as well as mentoring them for their patient safety projects. I have also developed our foundation doctor changing practice programme within our trust to develop their QI skills and to drive forward more patient focused projects. Within my trust I have also been involved in training staff in QI methodology and this is a role I am currently continuing to develop. I am keen to ensure that we have a workforce ready to improve and that everyone has basic skills in QI.
