Formerly a specialty trainee in renal medicine, in my role at the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare I have developed a particular interest in engaging clinicians in environmental sustainability and resource stewardship. I have published a proposed framework for the inclusion of sustainability in standard Quality Improvement methodologies:
Working with the ICP as an anchor institution, we will engage communities and healthcare staff in improving air quality, supporting them to co-create projects that benefit health and the environment.
Measuring and communicating environmental and social benefits to nurture new collaborative culture and greener ways of working in whole-system discharge to assess.
Working with staff in care homes, general practice and pharmacies, we will measure environmental impact, reduce medicine waste, free up staff time, and create guidance and ideas to embed improvements.
