Biography

Qualified in Medicine with a BSc in neuroscience before pursuing higher training in neurology

Moved into General Practice later for a more wide ranging experience of medicine and spent a year with Medicines sans Frontieres in Afghanistan as well as some time with the Tropical Health Education Trust in Ethiopia working on rural epilepsy and teaching both there and in Kenya.

Now based in Truro, he is a GP trainer and has developed an interest in health and inequality in recent years as it seems to underlie many interconnected problems.

Perhaps after all he is a public heath physician.

Q Exchange ideas

  • ‘Virtual sandbox’ opening Cornish General Practice for telehealth pilots

Telehealth interventions hold the promise of better quality care and reduced workload, both of which could make primary care more sustainable. The Kernow CIC group could be offered as a small scale 'test bed' for companies to pilot telehealth ideas, something we have already discussed with the 'Launchpad' unit at Falmouth University. Successful interventions could then be extended nationally and fed back to Q as a potential stakeholder in the process.

  • Outpatient departments for real people

Outpatient logistics can be inefficient, with multiple visits and uncertain waiting times. My aim is to improve quality by arranging tests in parallel on the day or on specified follow up dates.
