Chantelle is an RCSEng Surgical Research Fellow undertaking her PhD (funded by Health Education England) exploring ways to reduce the environmental impact of operating theatres. She is a Surgical Research Fellow at the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, and Honorary Clinical Teaching Fellow at Brighton and Sussex Medical School. Chantelle’s research interest in healthcare systems change began with her Masters of Research (distinction) using lean management to streamline patient pathways, and her current research focuses on environmental aspects of healthcare sustainability. She is the former Chair of the Institute of Healthcare Improvement Brighton Chapter and former president of Cardiff University Surgical Society and BSMS Foundation Teaching for Finals co-lead. She gained Quality Improvement skills as a Management & Leadership Academic Foundation Doctor and through the NHS Leadership Academy Edward Jenner Programme and BSMS HEEKSS Leading for Quality Programme.
This study aims to evaluate the ecological, financial and social sustainability of the operating theatre and opportunities to improve surgical sustainable value, whilst considering drivers and barriers to sustainability adoption.
