    Please help

    Hi everyone

The Improving Joy in Work SIG has nearly 400 members! This is amazing!

This means that there is a huge amount of knowledge and expertise about many topics which impact on Joy in Work, even for those of you who are new to the concept 😊

The membership of this group ranges from novices to experts and everything in between, which is fantastic, and provides a great opportunity for learning and sharing.

I would love for members of the group to be able to tap into this collective brain power, and I was wondering if you could share any thoughts on the following two questions (and of course anything else you would like to add 😊):

    1.      What could we do to make this happen?

    2.      What do you feel gets in the way of this happening?

    Any thoughts are very welcome!

If you would prefer not to post your ideas on here, please do email me at hello@juliawood.co.uk.

    Many thanks

    Julia

    • Hi Julia

Wondering what happened re the Community Of Practice as that would be one way to share learning, even if only met every 3 or 4 months, it would build a momentum perhaps?

Things which get in the way I think are demands on people’s time, also there are several SIGs directly and indirectly touching on wellbeing/supporting staff and if people are involved in more than one SIG, have a lot of work emails and SIG emails, then things may get missed, so maybe explore how different SIGs with similar themes coordinate actions to reach more people and perhaps reduce the ‘noise’ of too many emails, events, reports to read etc to be more focused on specific themes, something maybe to discuss with the SIG convenors group around how we collectively share information which may be related in some way but in one place??.

It may also be helpful to share examples of Joy in Work in action as videos/podcasts/blogs which people could access at a time which suits them and also, volunteer to be interviewed, write a blog etc so it offers inspiration seeing it in practice

      Hope that is helpful
      Kind regards
      Hilda

    • Good Morning All

Community of Practice or regular ‘network’ meetings is a great way to provide opportunity to bring and share information, ideas where you provide a supportive space to do so with a number of people.

Another approach is the time banking approach used in hexitime were you can trade your knowledge and expertise using time as your currency of value. Think skills bank. Allows you to do it on a more personal 121 basis or still with an individual supporting others, or for someone to create a virtual board of support drawing on time/expertise from a range of different people.

      • Morning Carrie, I’d endorse what you’re saying about both the value of CoPs – and Hexitime!

The Joy in Work SIG had a really interesting first CoP lunchtime catch-up last year, and we’re keen to hold more – there are some exciting developments on the horizon, too!

      • Hi Carrie
        Many thanks for your thoughts.
There is lots to think about.
        Julia

    • Thanks for bringing this to the fore Julia, it is often challenging finding the time to participate and find the thinking space for great concepts and initiatives such as JIW because life and work gets in the way. I think though there is something about helping people see the bigger picture/benefits that can be gained whether that is through case studies, CoP, Jamboards plus many other means.

Regards people contributing to your questions maybe a poll/survey for people to complete or online ideas/thought board that people can keep accessing would help focus the mind?
