    Has anyone got any idea where this came from?

    Organisational knowledge

    The organisation shall determine the knowledge necessary for the operation of its processes and to achieve conformity of products and services.

    This knowledge shall be maintained and made available to the extent necessary.

    When addressing changing needs and trends, the organisation shall consider its current knowledge and determine how to acquire or access any necessary additional knowledge and required updates.

    The knowledge needed for the operations in a healthcare organisation includes knowledge concerning evidence based and best practice recommendations for all clinical processes included in the quality management system.

    Note 1 Organisational knowledge is knowledge specific to the organisation; it is gained by experience. It is information that is used and shared to achieve the organisation’s objectives.

    Note 2 Organisational knowledge can be based on:

    a) internal sources (e.g. intellectual property; knowledge gained from experience; lessons learned from failures and successful projects; capturing and sharing undocumented knowledge and experience; the results of improvements in process, products and services);

    b) external sources (e.g. standards; academia; conferences; gathering knowledge from customers or external providers).

    • ISO30401 Knowledge Management standards may be? I used to have access to a copy but unfortunately not anymore so can’t check, but it sounds like something from there.

    • Hi Thomas, the wording sounds like ISO9001 to me.

      • Although I suspect there is a reasonable amount of conformity/cross-over between the various ISO standards. What is the context for you?

      • Thanks Sam. I’m working on a Roadmap and Framework for culture change in the NHS. After a long journey several thing have all of a sudden come together for me. A large part of this work is creating a learning system, amongst other equally important things. Eliminating error is another. Anyway I’m preparing a talk on learning and I like ISO9001 having worked with it for many years. The terminology of the piece certainly would lead anyone to the standard. Well done. If you are interested in my Roadmap and Framework please let me know.

      • Sounds like very interesting work! I’ve just started a new role so have many things to read at the moment, but I would be interested in seeing your roadmap and framework as well.

      • I’ll be presenting a webinar on the subject on the 13th Sept. at 12.30. I’ll send out a link as soon as I can. It’s taken me 7 years to understand the situation in the NHS regarding quality issues and the design of a solution. If you can’t make the webinar let me know and we could have a Teams chat.

      • Perfect, I can make that, thanks!
