    Hi everyone,
We are currently in the process of setting up a two-part Q Exchange series on Sustainability in Quality Improvement. Part one will focus on embedding Sustainability into Quality Improvement healthcare professions education and part two will focus on embedding Sustainability in Quality Improvement into NHS trusts. It would be great to have your input regarding what is covered. Please let us know if there are any questions or particular areas you would like to see included. Many thanks. We will post details of the event soon.

    • Dear Siobhan,
This is an exciting piece of work, but sustainability (spread and sustainability) needs to be build in to the start of a piece of work.
The main question is ‘how’ in our short-term world, do we achieve sustainability. Some of this is financial short-term-ism, some is due to the pressure on teams and organisations.
NHS Institute developed a very good tool looking at developing a gap analysis to measure whether all the right elements were present in a QI / Change project/programme. This seems to have disappeared.
      My questions?
      Q. What are the conditions for change to ensure success? …. And ultimately sustainability.
      Q. We have the NHS Change Model, however, what other frameworks are available to ensure sustainability of QI projects.
      Q. A huge element of QI and Change is the ‘Human Dimensions of Change’, what models and frameworks are being used to support individuals through the change process. Should OD be move engaged with QI?
      Q. Working with Voluntary Organisations is key to supporting patients in the community; how are organisations securing longer term funding to support this work. Short term initiatives offer get ‘pump-prime’ funding and not longer-term funding and new innovative services then fail; not because they are not good innovations, but the lack of sustainable funding.

      Kind regards,
      Liz
