    • Hello Kevin. Welcome to the group. We would love to hear more about your experiences of coproduction. We look forward to knowing more about your work. Welcome!

      • Dear Helen,

        Thank you for connecting.

I am intrigued to learn more about Community Hospitals and what it means in the 21st Century. Many people have historical views/perceptions as to what is a community hospital.

Locally my colleagues who provide the patient/carer and public voice are confused as to why the benefits of intermediate care beds (step-up/step-down, flexicare) are being commissioned within the community hospital setting if at all.

We agree that if a person can and chooses to be cared for (convalescence/rehabilitation) at home after an acute episode then this is optimal, however, it is not appropriate for all. Also a (Community Hospital) intermediate care can often prevent an admission to a General Hospital.

Is there a description of a community hospital (and all the other terms for intermediate care beds) and how a community hospital can provide the right care within the wider tertiary/secondary/primary care arena?

I would welcome the opportunity to share some of my experience of co-production in various health and social care settings.

        Regards,

    • Hi Kevin

Thank you for your comments and questions. I would love to talk to you further.

Community hospitals play a valuable role in the health care system, and our current study on the role of community hospitals during Covid is showing how their contribution is being more fully recognised. Certainly recent research from the University of Birmingham has shown how they are highly valued by patients and communities.

I look forward to speaking to you about this, and I am sure we will explore much of this more fully through our future SIG online discussion forum. All the very best. Helen
