Chelsea and Westminster: Digital Inclusion for Social and Health Impact (DISH)

  • Led by Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Hounslow Council and Imperial College Health Partners
  • During Phase 1 of the Lab the team wanted to make sure non–COVID respiratory pathways will offer the option of remote monitoring apps and devices, including video and telephone consultations would involve and engage patients more fully.

Why this project?

The team is based in Hounslow and serves a very diverse community. The team have begun a partnership with their local council to help them build their understanding of how digital exclusion impacts the community and the different ways they can support the community with existing digital assets and learning opportunities. This relationship also makes sure that the team develops different ways of working with communities.

The team have been working with a range of communities representing seldom heard from groups to understand how residents use technology every day, how they feel about the digitalisation of healthcare and what training and development needs will help to build confidence.

They have tested some of their assumptions as clinicians about how patients feel about digital healthcare and where clinicians need to focus on reassurance to develop a narrative around improvements to patient care rather than being driven by a lack of NHS funding and a staff reluctance to return to in person pre-pandemic interactions.
