I have over 20 years experience in healthcare in the UK, USA and Ireland. I am currently working clinically as Clinical Specialist Radiographer in the Saolta Group, part of the HSE. I was recently been awarded a PhD. My PhD thesis was entitled, Modelling “Busyness” - Using discrete event simulation and soft systems methodology to create a multimethod decision support tool."
My work, using modelling and simulation, focused on future demand for radiology services and staff workload and used discrete event simulation to build a model of a single scanner CT service. I have wide experience in radiology workflow reengineering using IT systems such as PACS, RIS and voice recognition and more recently using simulation modelling to create a decision support tool for managers. I have lectured at post graduate level across many universities and tutored at undergraduate level in the school of radiography. I was involved in setting up the first RIS/PACS module in UCD, lecturing in the areas of healthcare informatics and process improvement since 2003.
