Biography

Summary of Research Interests.

Dominic’s PhD study focuses on understanding complex interventions within complex systems, approaching this from an organisational culture perspective

Academic Biography.

Dominic Simpson is a lecturer of Adult Nursing, in Teesside Universities School of Health and Life Sciences. Dominic is a registered Adult Nurse having gained his degree at Northumbria University Newcastle. Dominic has held a number of clinical nursing roles across the North East of England, his clinical expertise are within emergency medicine and critical care.  As well as his role at the university Dominic continues to hold a honorary contract at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, regularly supporting the delivery of critical care services to patients.

Dominic Is currently studying for a PhD where he is aiming to understand the experiences of NHS staff when using the culture and leadership programme. Applying the Normalisation Process Theory with a realist evaluation too understand how organisational culture improvement projects are experienced across complex systems.

Dominic previously held the role of Graduate Tutor (Nursing) gaining experience or research and teaching at a range of levels, in 2018 Dominic became an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Dominic is a member of the Royal College of Nursing, in 2019 he was appointed chair of the Royal College's Northern Research Network a prestigious position that allows him to co-ordinate the networks activites across the region. Dominic is an active member of the British Association of Critical Care Nurses (BACCN) he uses his affiliation with the BACCN to provide a national voice to shape the strategy for critical care nursing and to promote safe, quality evidence based nursing care to the critically ill patient.

Learning and Teaching Interests and Activities.
Dominic’s Learning and Teaching interests include: clinical skills, advanced practice skills, simulation, management of the acutely ill adult, human factors and patient safety.
