I'm a researcher at Teesside University with a longstanding interest in understanding the pathological and molecular basis of dementia-causing illnesses. Recently, I've also developed a keen interest in the social and public health aspects of dementia, particularly in care homes. I'm currently running a project examining knowledge of delirium in care homes in Teesside. I'd love to collaborate with anyone interested in care home research, particularly around dementia and other brain illnesses.
In my lab-based research, I focus on investigating the molecular and pathological mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative illnesses. Currently, I'm leading a project developing novel diagnostic methods for analysing biofluids from Lewy body dementia patients.
On the teaching side, I'm the course leader for the BSc (hons) Biomedical Science programme and teach in the Neurological Diseases, Pharmacology and Pathology. I love sharing my passion for science with my students, particularly around the brain and dementia.
