Would you be interested in co-designing a new “QI practitioner” style programme, that will be free-to-access, use and adapt for all Q members?

We are gauging appetite for the programme itself, and looking for interested parties to help co-produce the resources. Let me know if you think it is worth pursuing and/or if you’d like to be involved.

We’d look to publish the resources (powerpoint slides, trainer guides and participant handbook with tools and templates) for free on the Q website. The ambition is that organisations would use these resources to train and develop QI practitioners locally.

     Thanks! Sid

    • That sounds like a great idea Sid.

Now that there is no longer free QI training available it might be useful to develop something like this. Especially if the NHS is to train improvement capability at scale with a limited budget.

Would you be thinking of a model that is adaptable to context (similar to the coach programme), or a one-size fits all approach?

Practitioner level training will likely need to be specific to the methodology that is being used. It might be useful to consider developing two sets of content, one for MFI and one for LEAN/LSS based organisations. There is a bit of a split across the NHS in the use of these methods so just developing one side won’t address the breadth of the challenge.

Lots of other challenges that I can foresee with something like this but, if you do go ahead, count me in – sounds like fun 🙂

      • Thanks Jem 🙂 100% it would need to be adaptable like the coach prog. We’re also thinking about whether we create something than leans more towards improving across systems vs intra-organisational QI only. Lots to think about – including methodologies like you said.

    • Hi Sid, I would be happy to support as well. We are currently using QSIR approach, but it will be great to be involved in programme that would be easily accessible for all.

      • Thanks Beata – agreed. Accessibility and adaptability are key drivers for this 🙂 Nice to hear from you!!

    • This sounds like a great idea, we are developing something at an ICS level across organisations so that most of us talk the same Qi language in the region. Happy to be involved if capacity enables.

    • Hi Sid,
I’d be interested in getting involved. In previous roles I’ve worked with colleagues to develop bespoke training materials that maintain the rigour of lean (as well as considering where MFI sits). We’re just about to do something similar in my current Trust, so it would be great to be involved in developing a free-to-access programme.

    • Hi Sid,
I am starting to work on an intermediate improvement offer for staff at PHU. We have an introductory offer and an advanced offer but currently don’t have anything in the middle. We have a Quality Management System in place and follow Lean methodology. I would be keen to be involved if possible.

      • I would love to hear about the QMS you have implemented. We are looking at this too

    • Very interested! Are you thinking of it being accredited at particular levels maybe?

You can count me in to help.

    • Hi Sid, this sounds interesting – we’re looking to do something similar – we currently use QSIR approach – interested in being involved if possible

    • Thanks everyone!! This is exciting. I will get in touch with everyone via email – could you let me know your work emails in the comments or by emailing me directly? sidney.beech@nhselect.org.uk

    • Sid we would love to be involved. I will email you directly. Thank you

    • Hi all. I’ve added you as members of a Q Exchange bid to co-create this resource. We’re thinking of kickstarting it next month whilst the bids are reviewed etc as we’re keen to start.

Have a read and please give us feedback https://q.health.org.uk/idea/2024/systems-improvement-practitioner-programme/?nid=71878

    • Hi Sid, Great idea and happy to be involved. Best wishes my email is s.mody@nhs.net
