    Hello everyone.
I’m looking for recommendations for useful tools or format to collate and share skills and assets in a network membership.
I am leading the development of a QI Leaders and Influencers Collaborative in Dorset Healthcare and we have started sharing what we each bring, firstly through a questionnaire but then in breakout rooms in our 2nd meeting. The output from this was the idea to set up a skills matrix as a place of exchange – things we offer, so that we can each make contact with others where they have experience QI tools and methods.
All ideas welcome – thank you 😉

    • Quick thought: Network maps are often used to gather and visualize skills or connect people on a shared tools/methods of interest. I am happy to think it through with you or share how I have done it. There is also a Q SIG on network mapping f you want to share your situation and ask for specific examples from the Q community of how mapping has been used and useful.

Hexitime (https://hexitime.com/) could be another option. That is a platform designed to foster peer exchanges. You can ask that a specific subgroup for your network be created.

Lastly keep embedding ways to poll, highlight and create time in your existing meetings to ask member what the need and want to focus on.

Happy to connect on a quick call if useful.

      • Thank you Kristin. I will definitely look at this. It would be good to see how something could be used at an organisation level, but will probably need to be fairly simple to begin with. It would be helpful to hear a bit about what you have done. Thank you.

    • Hi Pete

With others we have been looking at matching ideas/tools/resources to objectives people have around networking and network weaving. In the document section of this SIG page you will find the early example of what we have put together.

It has the headings which people have shared are of interest and underneath tools and ideas which can help address those headings e.g. finding the time.

We are also exploring a matchmaking tool, this link offers an example of one for Liberating Structures https://www.liberatingstructures.com/matching-matrix/#:~:text=The%20tool%20helps%20you%20clarify,dramatically%20reduced%20with%20the%20Matchmaker.

our aspiration is to find something which can be added to as new tools/ideas and resources are shared as well as offering active learning sessions to practice using the tools and peer assist sessions where people can come together and share challenges/successes. These sessions are open to all and people can dip in and out as is helpful for them to then take back to their organisation/community or practice etc

I hope that is helpful, feel free to email me directly if you think that may be of value for you

      Kind regards
      Hilda

      • Hello Hilda
You’re describing exactly what I am thinking – something that people can add to as they identify or build expertise in particular tools or approaches to improvement which enables others to connect with them for ideas or support and from this there may be specific topics for action learning that members of the collaborative can lead.
The Liberating Structures Matchmaker looks along the lines of a simple start we were thinking of using Excel. But this could very well develop into something else.
Can you give me the title of the document you say is saved in this group. Thank you
I would like to hear more about these active learning sessions you refer to, thank you.

    • Hi Pete

Lovely to hear from you, here is the link to the document which I mentioned. https://q.health.org.uk/document/tools-ideas-and-resources-to-support-networks-and-network-weaving/ This is a work in progress the idea was to put something out there just now until we worked on what else we could do, please feel free to share this if helpful and it would be good to share ideas if you found that helpful, I have also been working with Matthew on this. • Thank you Hilda. I am sure some of these sessions will be helpful and I already have the 6th in my diary 😉
The resource looks brilliant. I would say at this point our focus is on skills mapping in a visual format rather than social mapping, which seems to be more of the focus of network mapping tools – but definitely something we will make use of in due course I am sure. Thank you

    • Hi Pete

I hope all is well with you. Attended session yesterday with liberating structures users group on social network webbing https://www.liberatingstructures.com/23-social-network-webbing/ it was a great session and maybe a tool you may think helpful for being used also for skills mapping as instead of talking about each members networks, share skill sets then connect to see where there is similarities, overlap, gaps. I am always keen on exploring how to adapt tools. I am thinking of trying it in the staff wellbeing SIG around self care ideas for self and team to invite people to share what they do that others may also do or be curious about to learn more

      Kind regards
      Hilda
