The NHS Long Term Plan states that: \"Outpatient services will be fundamentally redesigned,” and commits to reducing face-to-face outpatient appointments by up to a third over the next five years. What does this commitment mean for rheumatology? For rheumatic diseases, long term follow up is often required. However, routinely scheduled appointments mean that patients have to attend hospital even if their symptoms are currently well managed and are not always able to get the support they need when their condition worsens.
