I have a background as a paediatric doctor, and started working in a split clinical/Quality Improvement Portfolio post in 2021, primarily improving paediatric outpatient services delivered across a large geographic area. This then developed into working for the Aneurin Bevan Continuous Improvement team, training as a Coach for patient safety and supporting project work as part of the national Safe Care Collaborative.
I have now taken the unconventional step of stopping clinical practice to build a career more formally in quality improvement, but bringing the perspective and experience of working as a junior doctor in many different rotations and considering how this often "Unheard voice" can input into improvement work across the system.
Other particular areas of interest:
Data for improvement - How routinely collected data within healthcare can be available and fed back easily to staff "On the ground" to better understand their service and guide improvement work, rather than the historic purpose of solely reporting upwards
Global Health - I previously volunteered on the Rwanda Perinatal Improvement Program through the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, looking at maternity and neonatal service delivery and the challenges within a different healthcare system.
