I am a postdoctoral Research Associate specialising in hospital ethnography. My research looks at the human, social and organisational components of quality improvement in healthcare. I am particularly interested in understanding the mechanisms (e.g. inter-professional boundaries, social norms, values, and beliefs) that enable some quality improvement interventions to work better than others, and how to effectively scale successful interventions.

My work currently focuses on improvement capabilities in mental health organisations. Between 2016 and 2019, I led on the Health Foundation-funded SCALING study of maternity care, which sought to identify the features of safe maternity units across the UK.
