Biography
Public health physician with Public Health Wales, interested in wider determinants of health and health equity. Recently, I completed a year at the Health Foundation working on NHS management capacity, integrated care and patient safety. This was part of a fellowship with the National Medical Director in England.
Now a Specialty Registrar in Public Health Medicine with Membership of Faculty of Public Health. BMA representative (Chair of UK Public Health Registrar Committee) and trade unionist. Welsh speaker. Have completed an MPH with distinction. Previously read medicine at Oxford, including a research studentship. Previously completed a 2-year Academic Foundation Programme in population health at Bristol.
My research experience includes lab-based work on the aetiology of cardiovascular disease, clinical epidemiology, big data, and Mendelian Randomisation. More recently I've been undertaking qualitative research around NHS and voluntary services. I have several first author, peer-reviewed publications.
I have held leadership positions for the BMA and various student groups and am a member of the Faculty for Medical Leadership and Management. I teach at Cardiff Medical School and have organised several teaching and access events.
I love reading, running, and exploring the Welsh countryside and coast.
