Hello Q’s, I am after some help / content / materials to help teach a group to think about dependencies. In particular a video to show virtually before I will be working with each of the groups to explore the hidden dependencies of their project areas 🙂

    • Hi Madi – are these issue dependencies, or people dependencies? Or both?

The ‘Purpose-to-Practice’ Liberating Structure we’re doing in the October LS meet-up might be some kind of help… Do join us!

The ‘LS in development’ called ‘Relational Coordination’ is an illuminating way to see the human dependencies, and where the worrying gaps are. Have a go!: https://www.liberatingstructures.com/relational-coordination/

I can’t quite remember where the video is of systems thinking whizz Benjamin Taylor’s Zoom on Systems Convening. I bet he shared some great systems mapping approaches. I need to listen to it again…

      I suspect there are specifically dependency-mapping tools that I don’t know about…

Human Learning Systems National Event Week (10th-14th October) might have such things too: https://www.humanlearning.systems/events/

Do share back if you find anything good!

    • I think I’d start out by bringing a group together, giving them post-its and asking them a question like, what else is this connected to? Ask them to put each point on a separate post-it, put them on a large piece of paper, then start to draw lines between things that have a connection or relationship. Ask them to add some words to describe the relationship. You can then start to explore the question of ‘what order’ and see whether people can start to make any sense of what needs to be done in what order. Hope that helps,
      Liz
