Hi everyone. I’ve started a new role – from OT to Discharge Improvment Advisor. A lot of the role is QI work. This is the first time the role has been implemented. My current project surrounds the ‘Priority Patient’ and improving numbers of mornng discharges from acute medical wards. But I also looking at weekend discharges which are extremely low at weekends. Has anyone done anything similar? In particular any ways to improve weekend numbers is most welcome!

    • Hello, sounds fantastic – there is a national Improvement collaborative supporting this run by the RCP and ECIST. It touches on most of the in hospital processes that can help support discharge. Happy to put you in touch with a colleague who is running this if helpful??

      Thanks

    • Hi Leigh, that sounds great! This a brand new role which requires a degree of creativity as well. My email address is

    • Hi Carol, I don’t know if you’re looking at the wider ‘patient-flow modelling’ conundrum, but a colleague of mine has been working on a wide-ranging program that should increase visibility of resources and facilities for patients as they move through the care-system.

    • Hi Andrew, thank you I will have a look at the website.
The challenge is the post is new and there is a particular emphasis on increasing morning discharges during the week and increasing weekend discharge numbers as well. This can be challenging for many reasons. The project work I am undertaking aims to look at this in more detail and the patient flow and specific reasons why they have not gone on their estimated discharge date/time etc.
