Firstly, I want to apologise to the group. A few months ago I was trying to bring people together who were interested in developing the primary care special interest group, in order to work out how we could best use the group to support QI in primary care. Unfortunately the meeting was planned just when the pandemic kicked off and it all got very busy, which unfortunately meant that this never went ahead. I know that there is still appetite for this, and the Health Foundation are also keen to support us coming together. It seems sensible that we arrange a virtual meeting, but I thought we should try and co-produce an agenda in the first instance. I’m posting some questions which I think will be good to address but please do add to this, and help shape the discussion.

    1. What’s the purpose of the SIG? What would we like to get out of the group?
    2. In what way can the Health Foundation support QI in primary care?
    3. What are the intended outputs of the group? Are there workstreams that we can build/ develop collectively?
    4. How often would we like to convene? How do we stay connected?

I’ll give everyone a week or so to help shape the agenda, and then hopefully send meeting details out shortly after.

    • Hello Rammya.

From a patient perspective I would like us to spend some time considering how the SIG can help promote the rapid dissemination and uptake of proven QI initiatives and methods.

      Best regards, Paul.

      • Thanks Paul, I’ll add this to the agenda – I think there is probably also going to be interest in understanding how to support patients to get meaningfully involved in QI in parimary care.

    • Thanks Rammya. It’s great to hear that you’re interested in setting up a virtual meeting. Your question are really helpful. I’d happy to come along and talk about what the Health Foundation could do to support the work of the group.

I am being role specific (AMR programme) in this reply and would be keen to see more QI use in primary care (and system wide actually) to ensure effective delivery of some of the UK AMR National Action Plan ambitions. So capture/share learning about what is currently working well improvement wise as well as collaborating to test and try improvement.

      • Hi Elizabeth – I would be keen to hear more about this. It’s good to have some specific project ambitions; I’m hoping there will be some time for the group to pitch potential ideas we collaborate on/ support.

    • Hi Rammya
I’m finding the greatest interest from General Practice currently is how to use a QI approach to manage patient access to care and practice workload building on the changes that were ‘forced’ by the COVID pandemic. This could be a useful lever to encourage the development of QI skills.
      Joanna

      • Thanks Joanna – this seems to be a recurring theme in many of the conversations I am having. Practices are struggling with all the different ways in which work is streaming in, and we could certainly give this some more thought.

      • There is a need to identify unintended consequences of these rapid changes also, as not done systematically at all to date as far as I am aware – do shout out if this is not so – and QI could be a good approach to do this

    • I’m speaking to @bryanjones this week, and will update you on a final agenda and meeting details following that. Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts and ideas.
