Q appoints Picker to lead two-year evaluation of impact

Q has commissioned Picker to undertake a two-year independent evaluation of its overall impact on members, its improvement work and the wider health and care system. Picker will be supported by ResPeo and Healthcare Priority Solutions.

The commission follows a competitive ITT launched by Q earlier this year.

The independent evaluation team, led by Picker, will help Q to understand how impact is achieved, and ways that it may increase impact in the future so that Q can improve health and care. Picker is an international charity working across health and social care.

Key evaluation questions for the Picker team are as follows:

  • What is the individual and collective impact of Q’s offers at individual member, organisational and system level?
  • What factors create this impact and how do they interact?
  • How can the impact of Q be increased beyond 2025?

The evaluation team will use a combination of qualitative (eg interviews, workshops and desk research) and quantitative methods (eg surveys) to collect data. This will include two major online surveys with Q members and stakeholders at different timepoints.

Matthew Hill, Head of Insight, Research and Evaluation at Q, says:

“I’m delighted to have commissioned such a strong Picker-led team to evaluate Q over the next couple of years. Their exciting approach will provide high quality and precise evidence of Q’s impact and be instrumental in informing Q’s development beyond 2025.”

Amy Tallett, Head of Research at Picker, says:

“We are excited to lead the independent evaluation of Q. Picker pride ourselves on our track record of using people’s experiences of care to measure, understand, and improve the quality of person centredness and to identify priorities in the design and delivery of care of health and social care. We are delighted to be able to apply our expertise by working with Q and its members, and in close collaboration with our partners at ResPeo and Healthcare Priority Solutions.”
