Biography

I qualified as a registered adult nurse in 1999. Having completed my preceptorship in medical nursing, I then pursued my interest for women's health working within the gynaecology department as east Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust. As well as working on the front line in the ward, I completed 6 years as an Early Pregnancy Nurse Specialist, before becoming a Ward Manager for the last 5 years.

After 18 years in women's health I have recently taken up a new role as a Corporate Patient Safety Facilitator for EKHUFT. I feel passionate about supporting and encouraging staff to speak up and take an active interest in learning from excellence as well as incidences. As part of my role I am engaged in facilitating Human Factors training and promoting a safety II culture within our organisation. I am currently working on developing a rapid response service to serious incidents, to support staff, enable early identification and action to reduce immediate risks and the ensure we are open honest and engaged with the patient/family to support them through the process of investigation. I am keen to network and learn from others engaged in patient safety and patient first initiatives.
