Aly Walker is a Consultant Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthetist at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. Her day job involves anaesthetising children for cardiac, cardiac catheterisation, ear nose & throat, dental and gastroenterology surgery. She has a particular interest in helping children with anxiety and autism through their journey.
Aly is passionate about improving the experience of visiting the childrens’ operating theatres for patients, families and staff and uses a Service Design approach to do so. From a starting point of zero budget, she spearheaded a £1 million transformation of the children's operating theatre department. Aly assembled a team of interior designers, architects, illustrators and environmental psychologists to work alongside the hospital capital planning, infection control and estates departments to make this a reality. Central to her approach is patient, family and staff involvement to deliver co-designed solutions to complex problems.
