I review quality related books for the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI). The last two book are of particular interest for the NHS with it’s proposed drive to use AI applications in the delivery of its  Services. These two books are: Trust Me: ISO 42001 AI Management System, Greg Hutchins and Margaux Hutchins and IT Governance – An international guide to data security and ISO 27001/ISO 27002, Eighth Edition, Alan Calder and Steve Watkins, itgp.

The interesting feature of these two new publications is that they both use the ISO Annex SL management system structure that is used by BS ISO 7101:2023 – Management System for Quality in Healthcare.

A third book, again of interest to Trusts, that I reviewed in 2013 when it was first published in the UK: Implementing and Improving an Energy Management System – How to meet the requirements of ISO 50001, Graham Wooding and Kit Oung, bsi. The interesting point is that this standard, ISO 50001, current version, again uses the Annex SL  management system structure.

Also although BS EN ISO 15189:2022+A11:2023, Medical laboratories  – Requirements for quality and competence, does not use the Annex SL structure it does include a link table to the standard in its Annex B..

The important point to note is that the same Integrated Management System can be designed for all these standards and many more standards that are very relevant to Trusts. For Trusts to not make use of the management structure defined in Annex SL is a grave ‘missed opportunity’.
