Adrian Plunkett’s latest newsletter – Friday’s Zoom looks good…!
To members of the LFE community,
I hope all is well and you have managed to get some rest and sunshine over the summer. We have recently returned from a peaceful holiday (more of a retreat) in a caravan in Norfolk. We were blessed with the best of the British summer, so we do feel somewhat recharged and ready to get back to work. Let’s see how long that feeling lasts…
I’m writing with news of our next LFE zoom call. Many of you answered my poll informing us that your preferred time for the zoom calls was the first Thursday at 1pm, with a few preferring 6pm. Some were requesting us to move the times around a bit, so we will host our next call on Friday – this Friday, 6th Sept, at 1pm. We will be hosting a conversation with Dr Neil Spenceley on safety-II, and workplace behaviours. Neil has been a friend of LFE since the start, and many of you will know him from his talks at LFE events and other conferences. He is the clinical director of Anaesthesia and Paediatric Critical Care at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Glasgow. I’ve spent many hours chatting with Neil about complexity, colleague behaviours, safety-I and -II, appreciative inquiry, and many other topics, and I think you will enjoy listening to him.
You may also be interested to listen to the latest episode of our podcast – our recorded conversation with Paul Devlin, which is now available on all the usual podcast channels: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/learningfromexcellence/episodes/Series-2–Episode-7-Paul-Devlin-on-evidence-based-culture-e2ng30v
Please also see this link for information about an excellent series of online events on Appreciative Inquiry in Healthcare, hosted by the Cooperrider Center for AI. Some of our LFE-friends are involved, and the programme looks fantastic: Appreciative Inquiry in Healthcare Series (google.com)
And finally, some of you may have seen that I am trying to wean myself off Twitter (X). Whilst I have left the LFEcommunity account open for now, I am going to focus most the LFE-related communications via this email channel now, as X hasn’t been working well for me recently. We have an Instagram account, but I haven’t figured out how to use it properly (yet)… So please feel free to share this email with colleagues who may be interested, and there is a sign-up link below for any who wish to join the community.
Hope to see some of you on Friday at the zoom call.
Until next time,
Adrian
