Thank you to everyone who has replied to me. My research for my PhD is specifically focused on GPs’ experiences. I made the decision not to include the patients’ perspective as there is lots of other good research taking place into this, and far less research into the GPs’ experience and how that influences the support they provide to patients with chronic pain. My aim is to improve understanding of GPs’ experiences, barriers and facilitators they experience and potential changes to practice required to enable them to provide more effective support for patients with chronic pain. After completion of my PhD I aim to further explore what patients and primary care health professionals need to help patients live well with chronic pain. I am particularly interested in fibromyalgia and ‘medically unexplained physical symptoms’.
