I have worked at University Hospitals Dorset in Quality improvement since 2016. Prior to this I held various roles in Quality and Performance, and NHS commissioning. Therefore my whole career has been about improving quality for patients and staff.
Working with diabetes specialist colleagues improving access to bariatric surgery for newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetes, to meet NICE recommendations for first line treatment, reducing the health burden.
To provide education sessions to increase awareness of preconceived weight stigma and the impact this has on patients accessing health care, to support confidence in providing care and sign posting.
Pilot project working to implement NICE guidance considering bariatric surgery as the first line treatment for severe obesity creating a fast track pathway to surgery and reducing health inequalities
Scoping project to assess attitudes, barriers and stigma of weight management. Developing projects to support the creation of clear pathways for prompt transition of patients seeking weight management advice
Retrospective scoping project assessing HES data to identify possible solutions to reduce hospital stay and health cost by preventing the admission. Supporting a triage service where obesity is primary diagnosis.
Dorset data shows that >20% of emergency attendances in epilepsy occur from 5% of patients. 25% do not attend appointments. We will improve care using data in a pan-Dorset approach.
