Hello Primary Care SIG!
I am a GP in Sheffield and have been considering how QI can support general practice towards more environmentally sustainable practice. Many of you may know the the majority of the general practice carbon footprint is in prescribing and that metered dose inhalers (MDIs) are of particular concern. Reducing the impact of MDIs can be an opportunity to improve clinical care for asthma patients given the correlation of overuse of short acting beta-agonist inhalers (salbutamol) and poorer health outcomes. Reducing MDI use is a focus on net zero NHS and we need to think about how we can do this effectively, safely and scale it up quickly. I wonder if you would be interested in collaboratively creating ‘off-the-shelf’ QI projects on greener respiratory care for our primary care community. Perhaps we this can be an offer for the Q exchange grants?
