Quality Coach Development Programme

A suite of resources for training health and care staff in the essential skills and knowledge needed to successfully coach teams and individuals through quality improvement work.

This toolkit includes slidesets, a delegate handbook, applicant guides and other resources for delivering and evaluating the Quality Coach Development Programme.

About this toolkit

The Quality Coach Development Programme aims to build improvement capability and capacity through providing the resources needed to train staff to successfully coach teams and individuals through QI work.

It is a free-to-adopt educational resource for Q members to use within their organisations or systems.

The resources include:

  • Programme Leader Guide: This has been designed for individual/teams who are interested in delivering the Quality Coach Development Programme. It explains what it is, why you should consider and how to deliver it.
  • Trainer Resource Pack: This supports the faculty to deliver the content of the programme inside and outside of the classroom. It includes a Trainer Guide with comprehensive details on running each session of the programme.
  • Evaluation Guide: This guide outlines strategies you can use to evaluate the programme and its impact in an organisation. It also explains key methods for delegate assessment.
  • Applicant Guide: This guide has been written for individuals interested in joining the programme as a delegate. It explains the benefits of the programme to them, their service and their organisation, and includes helpful tips for selling this to their manager.
  • Slidesets: The slides used to deliver all eight sessions of the programme.
  • Handbook: Created to support delegates on the programme as an essential component of their studies.

How to use this toolkit

The content and programme structure have been created to encourage local adaptation.

We want you to bring your own expertise, coaching experiences, and personality to the programme.

In adopting the programme, you will be able to upskill staff to independently coach others through quality improvement and change.

This brings a broad range of possible benefits to an organisation, including improved outcomes, experience of care, staff experience and retention and a culture of continuous improvement.

The materials for the programme are completely free-to-use, as long as you credit the authors.

Please ensure these copyrighted materials are correctly attributed.

Who is it for?

The programme is for Q members to use within their organisations or systems.

It is an off-the-shelf’ product; meaning that you can focus on delivery, instead of the design and development of the content.
