What is the challenge your project is going to address and how does it connect to your chosen theme?

Wound care clinics and District Nursing services are experiencing increasing demand, whilst nursing capacity is, at the same time reducing. Meanwhile attendance at clinics or waiting for District Nurses to attend can be inconvenient and time-wasting for patients and their carers. Increasingly self care of wounds is being encouraged, however local patient stories indicate a lack of confidence in undertaking wound care, often because people are concerned they would not do this correctly, or notice a change should it occur. The proposal is to test out App based photography to enable people to take photographs of wounds and share them with their local community nursing service in order to undertake review, and provide recommendation, support, and advice remotely, in between appointments.

What does your project aim to achieve?

The potential is to create capacity in nursing services, and include support to patients families and care homes.

  1. great and simple idea that could have tremendous impact for both patients and staff. There is also opportunity to use this as a learning tool with care home staff and carers in the community.

    Good luck, Lindsey!
