Building future improvers: scaling up the Aspiring Improvers Programme

Accessing peer support when you are new to improvement can be tricky. We want to open our successful Aspiring Improvers Programme to organisations outside of UCLP, expanding the reach and impact.

What does your project aim to achieve?

The UCLPartners Aspiring Improvers Programme started in 2018 with an aim to develop improvement capability in people with little or no previous experience in QI. The 12-month programme delivers training in core QI methodology and skills (using the IHI Model for Improvement) and covers broader topics such as engaging and influencing stakeholders, reflective practice, and presenting improvement. A fundamental aim of the programme is to establish the participants as a network at the start of their improvement journey, in the expectation that behaviours developed around sharing learning with people outside of their organisational and professional boundaries at this stage are more likely to be continued.

Building on our recent review of the programme, we want to open it to a wider audience: building a wider network of people from multiple organisations and professions, creating a safe space for them to learn, share and connect.

Sounds like a good idea. It could be very popular - do you have a feeling for how you would prioritise applicants if you get a lot of interest?

  2. Hi Sophie, lovely to see this idea. Have you got any stories of success to share from the current programme? I’d love to hear how it’s gone so far and what your key learning is.

    warm wishes

  3. Hi Sophie,

The connections that I've made since being involved with UCLP have been so helpful for me starting out in Quality improvement. Your idea is a great way for people to build an address book of 'experts' to turn to. Great to see you opening it up to the Q Community.
