Recent government funding is helping some Trusts to implement a range of new practices based on digital (or computer) technology. One of the high level ones in our Trust is the integration of medical devices into the patient electronic records system. This is going well beyond just recording information and in some cases is going to be used to program equipment like infusion pumps and maybe even ventilators.

I would like to evaluate the impact of these changes on the performance of the processes, the way people do things and how they feel and the effects on the working environment.

In order to do this right, we will need to employ a researcher either directly or indirectly through another organisation.

How you can contribute

  • I might need some assistance with the design of data collection tools and data analysis as well as proof reading of papers for publication. We would of course acknowledge the support.

  1. Marcus, Regarding the 'process', I'm sure that some process mapping would help your evaluation. If you need any help with this then let me know. Regards Tom

  2. We have developed a set of measures to evaluate digital innovations, in terms of user satisfaction, innovation readiness (based on Everett Rogers' Diffusion of Innovations), innovation process (based on Carl May's Normalisation Process Theory) and digital literacy.

Let me know if these are of interest.
