About this Visit

This Visit is an opportunity to learn about SASH+, the Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust management system with an inbuilt improvement methodology on site at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill.

SASH+ provides the structure, tools, training and development to make continuous improvement a reality. It has been a key part of the Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust journey to being rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.

During this Visit you will hear about the trust’s SASH+ journey over the last nine years.

Why Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust?

In 2015, Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust became one of five NHS trusts in England to work in partnership with the healthcare experts at the Virginia Mason Institute in Seattle, USA and NHS Improvement. As part of the partnership, staff are supported to develop a culture of continuous improvement based on lean principles. The SASH+ culture of continuous improvement  focuses on putting the patient first and enabling those that do the work to improve the work and make changes to improve patient care.

What will I experience?

During this in-person Visit to Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, you will have the chance to:

  • Visit to the genba (place where the work is done) to see some of the improvements that have been made
  • Hear about achievements from implementing lean methods across post discharge review assessments, length of stay for follow-up care and increased capacity of the IT team
  • Speak to staff who have been part of  improvement events and training opportunities, including the lean for leaders programme’ that disseminates the SASH+ tools through the organisation
  • Hear about the challenges and successes of the continuous improvement approach

Places are limited for this Q in-person Visit, so register your place  as soon as possible.
