Community Hospitals: recognising delirium sooner

How early screening can transform patient care.

About this event

Hear from Johanna Barnes, Advance Practitioner – Clinical Assessment & Treatment Unit (CATU) at Tewkesbury Community Hospital, at this event hosted by the Community Hospitals Association (CHA).

Delirium is a serious but often overlooked condition, particularly in older patients. Johanna’s award-winning project introduced the 4AT delirium screening tool, a simple but highly effective approach that led to a 75% increase in early delirium identification within six months. By enabling faster investigations and treatment, the initiative improved patient care while requiring no specialist training for staff.

In this session, Johanna will share how the team successfully embedded this approach, the challenges they faced, and the lessons learnt. Whether you’re looking to enhance delirium care in your own setting or gain practical quality improvement insights, this discussion is not to be missed.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to gain valuable insights, network with CHA members and discuss the opportunities and challenges presented on this topic. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.

Johanna won an Innovation and Best Practice Award last year for her outstanding work on early delirium detection and care. Take a look at Johanna’s winning poster and a summary of the judge’s comments.

What are Q group discussions?

Supported by Q, the CHA Group sessions bring together people who are passionate about community hospitals. Each session features a presentation about an exciting, innovative project and is followed by around 20 to 30 minutes of discussion and Q & A. They’re an excellent opportunity to learn, share ideas and network with others.
