Would you like to see network leadership in practice? Join this session to learn more and find support.
About this session
For those involved in coordinating and leading networks, co-consulting sessions offer a unique opportunity to harness the collective wisdom of others. One of the many advantages of being a Q member is the ability to connect and learn from those who share similar challenges and experiences.
Leading and supporting networks often presents unique obstacles, and these sessions provide a supportive environment to share difficulties and seek guidance. Additionally, they offer a valuable space for support, as leading networks can sometimes feel isolating.
What does a co-consulting session involve?
Co-consulting sessions are structured to foster open communication and collaborative problem-solving.
Each session starts and ends with 15 minutes of informal networking and connecting. The co-consulting element of the session takes place between 12.15 and 13.15.
Here’s how they typically unfold:
- Group formation: participants are divided into small groups of no more than five and no less than three individuals. This size ensures an intimate setting where everyone can participate actively.
- Introductions: the session begins with brief introductions, allowing participants to become familiar with one another and establish a sense of trust and camaraderie.
- Client and consultants: one participant volunteers to act as the “client”. The client brings an issue related to networking that they would like to discuss. The other group members assume the role of “consultants”.
- Issue sharing: the client has the opportunity to share their issue in detail, ensuring they are heard and understood. This is a crucial part of the session, as it sets the stage for collaborative problem-solving.
- Clarifying questions: the consultants are invited to ask clarifying questions to gain a deeper understanding of the issue. This step helps in framing the problem more clearly and identifying potential solutions.
- Observation and reflection: after the discussion, the client goes off camera and speaker. This allows them to listen to the consultants’ discussion about the issue, without the pressure to respond immediately. The client can take notes during this time, which can be helpful for reflecting on different perspectives.
- Feedback and sharing: the client then returns to the discussion to reflect on what they’ve heard. This is a chance for them to share their insights, how they interpreted the feedback, and what actions they might consider taking.
- Group reflection: finally, the whole group engages in a discussion about their experience. This reflection allows participants to share what they learned, how they felt during the session, and any new strategies or ideas they might apply in their own networking contexts.
These sessions not only provide practical solutions but also foster a sense of community and support among network leaders. By participating in co-consulting sessions, individuals can gain fresh insights, feel less isolated in their roles, and ultimately become more effective in leading their networks.
