Liberating Structures meet up: plan for your own challenge

Want to play around with using Liberating Structures to address specific challenges facing your team or organisation? Join this in-depth extended meet up to experiment, get ideas and design a 'good enough' plan for facilitating a highly-engaging meeting or event.

5 Sep 2024
12:00 – 14:30

About the meet up

Usually the Liberating Structures monthly meet ups are one hour long. This typically allows for only one, or two at the most, Structures to be introduced and tested, with a group reflection on the process at the end.

In September, we will meet for 2.5 hours. This will allow participants to come with a facilitation need or challenge and utilise the peer-expertise present in the room to design a “good enough” plan for an upcoming meeting or event. This plan will incorporate 4-7 Liberating Structures to fulfil your meeting’s desired outcomes.

We’ll have fun with ‘stringing Structures together’ and use peer-coaching to give each other feedback and suggest improvements. Maybe you’ll even find a buddy to support and/or coach you through your facilitation process.

This meet-up is for those who have some familiarity with the Liberating Structures menu. You’ll want to know about, and have tried, at least a handful of the Structures so we can be useful and creative consultants to one another.

The facilitators are Lyse Edwards, Kristin Johnstad and Meera Kapadia.

Our aim is to:

  • Create a collaborative and useful space that builds relationships and skills while you plan your string of Structures
  • Model effective facilitation and share new tools to use and adapt in your contexts
  • Have fun while we learn and support each other

We’ll share a detailed agenda in the Special Interest Group closer to the date. It is ok to drop in and out if you’re not able to join us for the full 2.5 hours, although to receive some benefit we do recommend you join for the first full hour at least.

About Liberating Structures

Liberating Structures can be used to change the way we work and collaborate. They promote inclusive, innovative, and productive meetings and projects and are now used widely in improvement work.

There are 33 structures to explore. Using them can quickly encourage lively participation in groups of any size, boost engagement, and enable connection and collaboration with others in a fun and inspiring way.

About Q’s Liberating Structures group

The Q Liberating Structures group meets online each month to explore one or more of the Structures. It’s a supportive space, and everyone is welcome.

The group sessions are co-facilitated by group members. While there are varying levels of experience with Liberating Structures and facilitation in the group, no one is an expert. We rely on peer support. Everyone is safe to try something new and learn together through participation.

“I always find these meet ups helpful and it has got me from wanting to use Liberating Structures to actually using them. I am meeting great people and learning practical skills.”

“I find this group a great energy boost, learning experience and networking opportunity.”

“I didn’t realise how much fun I’d have – but I also learnt something.”
