Maximising productivity will be critical if the health service is to sustainably meet the long-term growth in demand for care. And there’s currently a huge political focus on this agenda, recently signalled in the 2024 Spring Budget’s announcement of £3.4bn for technology to boost NHS productivity.
Making sustainable productivity improvements requires reshaping and improving the delivery of care.
Come along to this lunchtime workshop to find out more about productivity in health services, and how improving productivity can align with other improvement agendas. We’ll explore some practical approaches that can raise quality and productivity – including the use of technology to free up time for care – and look at what matters for making them happen.
What to expect:
This workshop will open with a presentation on concepts and approaches, as well as some case study examples, followed by an opportunity to put questions to Tim. There will then be a short breakout session followed by reconvening for reflections and further discussion.
The workshop will address the questions:
- What is productivity, and how does it relate to healthcare services?
- What approaches to service improvement and reform can increase productivity?
- What factors are important for implementing these approaches successfully?
Facilitation:
This workshop will be facilitated by Tim Horton, Assistant Director of the Improvement team at the Health Foundation. Tim joined the Foundation in 2015, where his role is focused on identifying and communicating the insights and learning from the Health Foundation’s programmes, as well as supporting the spread of health care innovation and improvement.
